There are a multitude of ways in which to drive traffic to your website, some of which are paid and some of which are free. It is a true saying that you can either work for your traffic or you can pay for your traffic. In this article I would like to look a combination of the best ways to drive massive traffic to your website.
Many people believe that driving traffic is as simple as starting a pay per click campaign and watching your traffic levels soar, this is a misconception and will lead to nothing more than a very expensive pay per click bill. Having said that pay per click is one of the fastest ways to drive traffic but you must know what you are doing and a great deal of research needs to be done on the keywords you wish to pay for. If you are paying for your traffic you need to make sure that it highly targeted so that you are getting a good return on investment.
Advertising on social networks has become more and more popular due to its high traffic volumes. This is of course paid advertising but can be geographically targeted just like pay per click and again keyword research is of the essence to drive targeted traffic. You can be very clever with your social networking by offering advice and building relationships relating to your business this is free but takes time, again working for your traffic.
There are many free forms of advertising that can drive endless amounts of traffic to your websites and the beauty of methods such as article writing and video making is that they keep on working long after you have published the article or video. One of the best ways to use article writing as a form of driving traffic is to get loads of articles out on the internet under lots of different keyword phases, not only will this drive traffic but it count as back links to your website and move you up the search engine pages.
The same thing can be done with video and published to 100′s of video sites for free. Forums can also be a great place to pick up free traffic by posting useful information for people to read. If you are consistent with your knowledge eventually people will want to know more about your business.

If you are a starter, you have to begin with the free way to generate traffic. Actually, you can start by making your website a good one, which multi-pages and have quality and catchy contents. You can create articles and submit it to high PR article directories. Blogging can help as well.

I totally agree PPC is not for beginners. To be successful as an online marketer, it always comes down to traffic. I personally make use of all the free methods of driving traffic but I have experimented with PPC.

I do not recommend that “newbies” use PPC unless they really know what they’re doing. That can get quite expensive with little return on investment…believe me, I know.

@Robert,
I totally agree PPC is not for beginners. Honestly it isn’t much for experienced marketers either simply because that same money spent on PPC could easily be used on a direct targeted ad on a high traffic site or on a backlinking program which would bring longer lasting traffic…I guess I’m just not a fan of PPC
