Hostgator -one of the most popular web hosting companies around- brought something very innovative to my attention. I accidentally found out about this after having my site transferred from another marketers closed out reseller account to mine.
Originally, the name MarketSecrets.biz was bought as the address for a product which I had acquired the private label rights to. The hosting was under the marketer’s reseller account whom I acquired the PLR product from which shortly thereafter was deactivated. Of course, this ticked me off :guns: because I had spent money to purchase the rights as well as made monthly payments for the hosting and now it seemed as though I’d been HAD!
Immediately, I called Hostgator to explain the drama and that’s when they informed me that I had something called a “Baby Account” which allowed me to transfer all the folders and files of that site and have it hosted under my “Baby Account” that I had owned for quite a while. And since the name was bought through GoDaddy, all I had to do was change the server names to Hostgator’s server names, log into my hostgator c-panel to select “Add-Ons” and insert the MarketSecrets.biz URL there, then VOILA…
…two sites now hosted under one account at one monthly rate of $9.95
The support guy also told me I could do this with an unlimited amount of domain names … the only catch was a $30 flat fee per transfer. Of course, even this would have been unnecessary had the the domain name been completely new and devoid of any folders or files.
But the best part by far that I pictured in my mind was buying up say 10 domain names and inserting them into my babby account which essentially creates 10 separate c-panels ALL under one account for one monthly cost of $9.95.
Now that’s some serious savings for all my future site hostings.
This “add-on” technique coupled with a tip from my upcoming post are just more ways for keeping your site’s lights on so stay tuned.
SIDENOTE: Obviously, I uploaded the WordPress site you’re viewing now to the MarketSecrets add-on and simply dumped the PLR product. This ordeal also taught me about to be cautious of being hosted under someone’s “re-seller account” … if they get shut down, you’re S.O.L.

Caleb, I’m really glad I read this. My daughter is having some issues with her host so I was wondering what I would need to do in order to move her blog. This is an excellent option for her. Thanks!

Ya I love hostgator too Caleb, I purchased the address for my blog completely separately without a hosting plan and I was able to add it onto one of my existing hosting plans with hostgator by simply using the Addon feature and making the domain point at the address of my 2 servers on the hosting account.
The whole process was flawless. The service you receive by hostgator is awesome.
